South Korea is Hell IRL

@neopetaccount8397
Imagine in your resume being the guy that revamped the suicide bridge which resulted in more suicides.

@barisk6855
"Everyone is running the same program. Korea just got the results back first."

@Lololol69-v8g
Crazy how different countries have their own ways to f*ck up their citizens

@evalopez1454
And then they wonder "why koreans, chinese and japanes aren't having children?" Bro, that system is the best birth control in the planet.

@hollingsworth_hound
Looks to me like Samsung found a way to get Korean parents to literally farm their kids for them.

@packetpirate
Imagine your son dies and you have to watch footage of him dying hundreds of times to figure out what went wrong.

@Артеменко-е9д
Two dystopias are located on a single peninsula.

@cernunnos123
Man, imagine escaping North Korea to this...

@wombatmats
"Left with nursing assistants who were on their phones." As someone who lives in Korea, they take phone addiction to a whole new level. My neighborhood in Korea has ground traffic lights (literally lights that change color on the sidewalk) so people on their phones don't have to look up. I also regularly see people watching videos on their phones while walking on hiking trails. Society here completely fails to call out this insane behavior because it's so normalized.

@kjon99fm
Just another notch on the ever evolving global dystopia

@binyamengdawork
Seoul literally translates to Hell in Amharic

@sandoristar7597
So literally Night City from Cyberpunk but in a country size

@ahmednasrulla4766
Thank God I was born literally anywhere else

@Hurdy-Gurdy-Mushroom-Man
the sign outside a doctors surgery saying "14 years since last accident"

@michaelrexrode3759
Toxic work culture, Toxic homelife, what's not to like?🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️

@fijillian
“Unbroken chain of slavery that lasted 1,400 years”

@hernanuliana9111
A corporate dystopia

@winnterk
Hikiomori in Japan
Just rested in Korea
Laying flat in China
Hermits in America
We’re are all doomed if nothing changes for the better.

@BryJen
Goddamn, is basically The Hunger Games.

@WilliamSchattner
South Korea is the perfect example of the consequences of allowing cartels and monopolies to turn the country into a corporatocracy. All of these dystopian developments we see all around the world have been predicted by heterodox economists, at least since the financial crisis of 2008.

@MisterMisanthropeEsquire
Educated livestock is still livestock, and no matter how you dress it up it remains livestock in Korea. Their education need not go to waste as a neet. There are any number of countries to go work, and treat them better. Especially, if they speak decent English.

@Unnatural09
Now all of Korea has become "Gangnam Style. The song was created as a satirical critique of South Korea's superficial consumer culture and extreme household debt, rather than a genuinely glamorous lifestyle anthem. The song's message is terrifying, and now Korea is dying due to extreme household debt.

@DemitriVladMaximov
You load 16 tons and what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt. St. Peter don’t you call me cause I can't go. I owe my soul to the company store....

@gulie94
And I thought my country was full of narcissists

@marcusmiller5443
to think people should be cool with this vapid, everyone's a fuqin' salesman society, is ridiculous.

@abba7707
This is what happens when how you are seen by others is the most important thing in your life. Korea is no different than other countries, they simply mastered this destructive mindset. You can see it in Korean churches outside of Korea. It’s only a performance but when you have been playing the role for so long, it’s nearly impossible for many of them.

@ibrahim.1606
I notice a lot of macro problems are caused by sticking to old policies too long and not changing lanes until it’s too late

@CaptainMarvelsSon
Suneung has fascinated me since taking the ACT and SAT in high school. To get a perfect score on both of them can go a long way toward higher universities deciding you are valued enough to be one of their limited number of students allowed. Yet, that is all that they are good for compared to the Suneung that determines your entire life.

@2crazed4u
40MIL to 20MIL people is crazy 🔥

@mr.sinder1102
To think Samsung is literally Arasaka in real life, that make total sense why the country is turn up like the way it does.

@cochineal2851
The world is not, in fact, healing. On the contrary, it is taking its finals gasps of fresh air before sinking into an uncertain but determinedly cruel abyss. Congratulations, humanity.

Korean children compete from age six. Over 95% attend private cram schools, studying up to 16 hours daily. The Suneung, a 9-hour exam, determines university and career. On test day, aircraft are grounded and roads closed. Some parents gift cosmetic surgery afterward.

Samsung dominates at 20% of GDP. Over 200,000 apply annually. Applications historically required photos, height, and parents' jobs. Nearly 40% reported appearance discrimination.

Korea leads the world per capita for plastic surgery. Gangnam's Apgujeong district generates 70% of Seoul's revenue. "Ghost surgery" by unlicensed doctors has killed patients.

Average Seoul apartments cost $630,000. Semi-basement flats house 200,000 households. In 2022, a family drowned in one during floods.

In 2025, 421,000 Koreans in their 20s were "just resting". Not working or studying. By 2026, 470,000.

Korea has the world's lowest fertility rate (0.72). The government spent $210 billion failing to reverse it. 4,000 schools have closed.

Korea ran the same program as the West. Hyper-competitive education, monopolistic corporations, and housing crises. But in 60 years instead of 200. That is why its consequences arrived first.
