The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
A friend recommended Tolle's book, and I found myself completely absorbed in it from beginning to end. Tolle himself would probably agree that there is nothing essentially "new" about the ideas in the book; the value lies in the clear, intelligent and gentle way in which they are presented.
This book is carefully, thoughtfully, and beautifully written. He starts by illuminating the slippery and destructive patterns of the ego which confound spiritual and even physical well-being. Meditation and self-awareness are then shown to be practical techniques for breaking down and dissolving the various forms of mental pollution.
