Alex Hope

Two waiters at the PlayGround nightclub at Liverpool’s Hilton were needed to carry in the giant 30-litre bottle of Armand de Brignac Midas champagne. For his party, 23-year-old financier Alex Hope also ordered 40 single bottles of Ace of Spade champagne, along with £4,000 worth of Grey Goose vodka, which he handed them out to women there last night. The total bill came to £203,948. ($326,459 USD)

Nightclub boss George Panayiotou ordered the DJ to play The Dawn of Man, the iconic anthem to the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, as the huge bottle was carried through. He was there with a few friends on a private table, but after the big bottle came in they were mobbed by about 60 gorgeous girls. Mr. Hope is well known in the financial industry as a high flyer, already hugely successful after just three years in the business and tipped by many to become one of the biggest traders in London.

One member of the hotel staff admitted, “It caused a bit of a stir. We have some of the best champagnes in the world, but nothing like that.
